Pop the Question on a Street Sign

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

Every day  men are trying to come up with unique and personal ways to take the leap and get down on one knee asking their significant other to marry them.  Some couples want the privacy of just the two of them, and other couples go all out at baseball games or in this case a street sign on the side of the road.  Street Art turns romantic when ‘Posterchild‘ from The Torontoist uses is art not only for what he calls New York Sunsets, but to ask is second half to be there forever.  One quiet night while they were walking home he took a short detour to put up his most recent piece.

At first she thought it was another art piece to shock his fans and those walking by.  As always she continued to take pictures and document his art, while he looks at her in disbelief for ignoring such an important question.  Finally he gets her attention and repeats what he thought he conveyed on the sign.. “‘Seriously, will you marry me?’.  After realizing it wasn’t just a piece of art and he got down on his knee to officially ask …she said Yes!

Another example of a creative and unique way to incorporate something that is important to you into your proposal.  Thank you for the inspiration and Good Luck with your future marriage!!

Wishing Wall Guestbook

Friday, November 13th, 2009

One of my favorite websites to visit is Uncommon Goods, if you have yet to check this out I suggest heading over there now!  There is always a new, unique and interesting gift to stop and make you wonder!  There are practical gifts and there are fun gifts – recycled, eco-friendly gifts and colorful completely unnecessary gifts…but all full of character!

I came across this Wishing Wall Frame and thought it would be a perfect way to recreate the timeless guestbook at your wedding.  Have each guest sign a small sheet of paper with a wish for your new lives together, signature or good memory they have spending with you.  This will make for a colorful display in your house,  and a great talking point when guests visit – I am sure everyone will wonder about it!

If you are hosting a smaller wedding and are weary of filling up this large wall of wishes, start early! Bring it to your showers and bachelorette parties, each event you can come up with a new idea for your friends to write down.  In the end the wall will be filled with fun stories, kind words and well wishes!

Married on a Post-It

Monday, October 12th, 2009

Are Meredith and McDreamy really married? Do you need the flowers and fancy dress to seal the deal on marriage or is a post-it enough? Personally, I adore the Post-It Marriage shown on Grey’s Anatomy this season.

Together they sat down and agreed upon what they wanted their marriage to promise to one another.

1. To love each other even when they hate each other.

2. No running.

3. To take care of each other even when they are old, senile and smelly.

4. That this is forever.

In the mix of planning a year-long celebration full of flowers, cake flavors and DJs did you and your husband take the time to discuss this simple question of what you want to promise each other to make the marriage forever?  I loved this scene in Greys because it took what every couple makes into a big production and simplifies it into 4 promises.

.

Back to my first question…can you be married on a Post-It? Does this Post-It marriage mean any less of a commitment between the couple?  I don’t think so. I strongly believe whether you are inviting 200+ people to your wedding, or sitting in a locker room, promising to take care of each other forever—the feelings behind the vows are what matters.  If you want the sacred day to be shared by just you and your husband avoid the expectation that you have to invite your entire family along for the ride.

In the end…it is just you, your new husband and 4 simple promises.

Staying Young Forever

Friday, July 24th, 2009

From most married couples you will hear their favorite part of marriage is being able to be with their best friend.  You get to laugh and be completely yourself around someone else who accepts you for you.  I think one of the great aspects of marriage is not only challenging each other daily, but keeping each other young! Having fun, laughing and just being goofy together will create a much more fulfilling marriage!  I love these photos of couples on their wedding day or engagement pictures just playing like little kids together.
